stone sculpture

Birth

What stands out visually:

Vertical human-like posture — The form resembles a torso or standing body without becoming fully figurative. It narrows slightly through the middle like a waist, giving it a living, breathing quality.

Central hollow / opening — Near the upper center there is a deep puncture or void. This opening feels symbolic, almost womb-like or like an emergence point. Because the work is titled Birth, the cavity suggests transition, passage, or the moment of coming into being.

Rough internal texture against polished exterior — The contrast between the smooth carved stone and the raw, textured interior area creates tension. The outer surface feels controlled and refined, while the rough section feels primal, unfinished, or naturally formed — as if something is breaking through the stone.

Footprint or embryonic impression — The roughened central shape vaguely resembles a footprint, fetus, or imprint left by a body. It gives the sense that life has pressed outward from within the stone rather than being added onto it.

Subtle asymmetry — The sculpture is not perfectly geometric. One side curves inward more than the other, creating a feeling of movement and growth rather than static balance.

The piece feels minimalist, but emotionally charged. Instead of depicting birth literally, it suggests birth through absence, pressure, and the opening of space inside solid material.
