under pressure

Beofore Collapse

The form is vertically compressed and enclosed, almost like two heavy masses pressing inward toward a vulnerable center. The narrow opening creates tension: the sculpture does not fully close, but it threatens to. That suspended moment is what gives it emotional force.

  • The central cavity acts like a pressure chamber. Empty space becomes the real subject.
  • The rough, jagged inner edge contrasts with the smoother outer shell, suggesting stress fractures, erosion, or internal damage.
  • The shape resembles both protective armor and confinement at the same time. It could be read as sheltering something fragile, or crushing it.
  • The small protruding form near the center almost resembles a compressed human figure, spine, or organic core caught between opposing forces.
  • The green patina gives it an aged, archaeological quality — as if the pressure has been acting for centuries.

The opening at the top prevents total collapse, so there is still breath, release, or survival within the strain.

What makes the sculpture effective is that it avoids literal storytelling. It communicates through mass, void, and tension. The viewer feels the pressure physically because the form itself appears to be under stress.
